I have an allergy to risk-aversion, and tend to blow-up the boxes that the rest of the world is still trying to think outside-of. Having the courage to be disliked has been the source of my greatest successes and my darkest moments.
My mom used to say: "I had 4 sons. Karen was the only one who turned into a girl.
My dad describes me as: “unprogrammed.”
My brothers: “5’1” on the outside, 6’9” on the inside.”
Most kids have the one annual hearing test in school, I had 5. My teachers didn’t think I could hear them. I could hear them – I just wasn’t interested. I took their tests, checked their boxes, and got their “A’s.”
When the school counselors called it: “A.D.D,” and recommended medication, my mom called it: A.A.D. (attention abundance disposition,) and put me into gymnastics, which I did for 16 years (in addition to other sports.)
When I’m focused-on, or delighted by something (book, research, music, comedy, fish tank, etc.,) my hair could be on fire, and someone would have to tap me on the shoulder to complain about the smell.
I wanted to be a writer, but became a nurse because my mom told me to. Spent 16yrs in trauma, ICU, and flight nursing (because I wanted people to envision me in a flight suit, walking in slow motion, with an Aerosmith Song playing in the background.)
Started my first business in 2011, then went from building businesses, to building companies, while writing about nursing, and life. So that worked out.
I excel at fixing boo-boos and making sick people feel better. I’ve scrapped brains off pavement, created an airway with a pen, and kept my cool whilst being held at gun-point when a drug-lord’s security goons threatened to shoot me if he died from the heart-attack that I flew into Mexico for. [He survived. And his daughters got on the plane with their Louis Vuitton luggage that weighed as much as their 300 lb father. And they paid for the jet fuel in cash.]
LOOKING FOR THIS: “I love to be around me, around you.”
I’m financially independent, enjoy my own company, and crack myself up (complete, on my own.) Looking for a man with a whole life that he wants to share, not a man with ½-a-life that he needs someone else to complete. Someone who inspires me to be better than I am on my own, and with whom I can be myself with abandon.
Someone who delights in life’s ‘little magic’ that I may miss – like, pauses to watch bugs.
Ideal dude must love adventure – both internally (soul-spelunking) and geographically. Unafraid to be profoundly masculine, talking until irresponsible hours about everything and nothing, and laughing ‘till no sound comes out.
In summary, one of my favorite quotes by Kingsley Amis:
“I enjoy talking to you more than anybody else because I never feel I am giving myself away and so can admit to shady, dishonest, crawling, cowardly, unjust, arrogant, snobbish, lecherous, perverted and generally shameful feelings that I don't want anybody else to know about; but most of all because I am always on the verge of violent laughter when talking to you. If you were here, I keep thinking, we would spend the time in talk and drink and smoke and I should be laughing a lot of the time, and I should be enjoying myself a lot of the time.”
ONE WISH that would take care of everything: "I wish to not want anything." But admittedly, short of the enlightenment that comes from the first, it'd be pretty fun if: "Everything I wished for came true. "
