Moving this to the top of the page since no one seems to read to the end. I have two kids, a boy, 8, and a girl, 11, and I have them 50% of the time. I only say this because it appears to be a non-starter for many women. I understand their sentiment and wish them well. I'm looking for someone with the heart for it.
Now where was I? You're not perfect. Neither am I. We, however, might have a better definition of the word together. Still working out the detail on what that means, but I think the key is defining the word "perfect" in a more mature manner. I am a Stoic, which I have discovered fairly recently. As best I understand it, and as counterintuitive as it might sound, expecting little of life seems to bring a great wave of gratitude and joy in places where nothing but trouble and unrest use to abide. Now isn’t that something?
But if we can make each other laugh at least once a day; make each other think twice about things we thought we knew; and, go into the future admitting we’re just human beings who have, can and will make mistakes, I suspect we will hold onto each other and give each other, not our best selves (that can never be maintained and how exhausting), but our real ones, which is much better anyway.
I recently read that love is trusting someone enough to give them the part of you that you know they could break. I really don’t know if I am that strong. Maybe it's a process.
